WORKSHOPS FOR WOMEN

Self-defence taught

*COULD YOU defend yourself if
attacked today?

The assault statistics on women
of all ages are staggering, accor-
ding to Rec Centre Lonsdale of-
ficials.

They have, therefore, scheduled
women’s self-defence workshops
to be held on Jan. 23, Feb. 27 and
March 20.

The workshops feature assault
statistics, tips on how to avoid at-
tack and practical self-defence
techniques.

Course instructor Chris Fournie

is a second-degree black belt kurate
instructor at Ree Centre Lonsdale,
Fournie also holds a black belt in
Arnis, a Philippine martial art that
teaches individuals self-defence
techniques against weapon attacks.

Fournie has researched violence
against women, and has consulted
with the North Vancouver RCMP
and other experts.

The workshops run from 10
a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Lunch is includ-
