Canoeists saved by Coast Guard TWO CANOEISTS, who capsized near the mouth of the Capilano river, were rescucd by the Canadian Coast Guard Tuesday around 9 p.m. A CCG spokesman said one of the men had been in the water about 40 minutes and was ‘near death."’ He was found floating in the water face down. Crew members were able fo revive the man and take bim to Vancouver General Hospital, where he was treated for hypother- mia and discharged later the same night. The mun is 27-year-old Andrew Woijciszek. of Vancouver, Richard Dolecki, 40, also of Vancouver, was able to get to a fishery buoy aided by Wojciszek. The spokesman said after Wojciszek helped his friend to safely he didn't have the strength to hold on himself, and drifted away. The CCG vessel Osprey was dispatched to the scene at 9 p.nt. from its Kitsilano base and both men were on board the vessel within 10 minutes. CCG was alerted to the accident by the Canadian Rescue Centre, which wag notified by a West Vancouver resident after cries for help were heard. Three bears visit W. Van THREE BEARS were captured in West Vancouver by Ministry of Environment conservation officers Monday. West Vancouver Police received the initial report on the bears from a resident in the 900 block of Sherwood Lane. Police report the bears were tranquilized and transported to a remote area of North Vancouver and released. Nancy Ellen Shulman was originally charged with personating a living person, stealing a credit card, forging a signature and using a credit card.
