The English Tudor style home of Ted and Jeanne Pennell has 4,500 square feet including the maid’s quarters. Built about five years ago in the Upper Delbrook area with the aid of David Poskitt, Ted has designed a spacious and beautiful house, named Coppertree Estates. Entering through the double front doors, you arrive in a spacious hallway with a redwood stairway, floor to ceiling windows, and a pewter chandelier. Turning right, you step into the living room with its floor to ceiling old brick fire- place and open cedar ceiling. Through the bay window, you can look to the south and west at a panoramic view of the harbour, downtown, and Georgia Strait in the distance. Being custom designed and built, there are many unusual features such as three gas furnaces and one electric one. The reason for this is fuel economy. With double insulauon and double glazing. the house retains heat very well. Each furnace heats a portion of the house With this selective heaung, you are only heating the part of the house you are in at the time. For instance, at night, you only need the bedrooms warm. Using this method, Ted has found that his heating bills are about the same as a 1,300 sq.ft. home. Turning left from the hallway, you enter the formal dining room = and beyond that ts the spacious kitchen with an _ informal ealing area, a large island counter with a Jenn-Aire range, pine cabinets, and built-in stove. Through a couple of brick arches, off the kitchen, is the family room with a fireplace and a wood stove. Downstairs is storage as well as a maid's quarters that is the size of a nice apart- ment with its own appoint- ments such as fireplace and patio. At the top of the beautifully crafted redwood staircase is a large landing. and off that, the three bed- rooms. Ted and Jeanne’s home has four baths, the one off the master bedroom has a large oval tub, a glassed in shower room and a bidet. A unique feature of this house is the extensive use of glass. It is an interesting sight to stand in the master bedroom at one end of the house and took right (hrough the entire house via the glass walls and out into the forest on the other side i 1 i :smpvndibaretitt 4 LST, CN
