Art smorgasbord

Summer visitors to The
Vancouver Art Gallery will
have an opportunity to view
principal works from the
Permanent Collection that
include paintings by the
famed West Coast artist
Carr,, sculpture by
Anthony Caro and Robert
Murray, photographic works
by Roy Kiyooka, three-
dimensional pieces by
Gathie Falk and _ Irene
Whittome, and silkscreen
prints by Andy Warhol. The
exhibition will be on view
from July 15 to August 17.

abstract work that made no
reference to the human
figure. The Canadian-born
Murray, who now resides in
New York, follows a similar
tradition.

While Caro’s forms follow
a sensuous line and observe
the aesthetic of truth to
materials evident in “Bow’s”
natural texture and un-
treated steel surface,
Murray’s pieces are factory-
fabricated, their industrial
references, apparent in the
piece’s glossy painted
surface and crisp geometric
shape.

“Stone Gloves” is a major

white photographs by
Vancouver painter, poet,
sculptor, photographer and
