men ’ ~ . * . . . ° BIS - Wednesday, July 7, 1982 - North Shore News Art smorgasbord Summer visitors to The Vancouver Art Gallery will have an opportunity to view principal works from the Permanent Collection that include paintings by the famed West Coast artist Carr,, sculpture by Anthony Caro and Robert Murray, photographic works by Roy Kiyooka, three- dimensional pieces by Gathie Falk and _ Irene Whittome, and silkscreen prints by Andy Warhol. The exhibition will be on view from July 15 to August 17. Caro's “Bow,” a gift of Lori and Ira Young, and Robert Murray’s ‘‘La Guardia,” a gift of J. Rony Longstaffe, are both horizontaf steel “floor” pieces. Caro, a British artist, and one of the world’s Live! on the North Shore CROWDS OF PEOPLE lined up in the rain outside the West Van Odeon Saturday to see E leading sculptors was first to explore three-dimensional abstract work that made no reference to the human figure. The Canadian-born Murray, who now resides in New York, follows a similar tradition. While Caro’s forms follow a sensuous line and observe the aesthetic of truth to materials evident in “Bow’s” natural texture and un- treated steel surface, Murray’s pieces are factory- fabricated, their industrial references, apparent in the piece’s glossy painted surface and crisp geometric shape. “Stone Gloves” is a major series of 22 large black and white photographs by Vancouver painter, poet, sculptor, photographer and JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR First ever local production of this classic rock opera opens tonight at North Van Centennial Theatre. The show continues to Saturday, and plays again next Wednesday through Saturday at 8:00 p.m. Tickets can be purchased at teacher Roy Kiyooka. The photographs of workmen's gloves were inspired by the artist's experience on the Expo 70 construction site in Osaka, Japan, where he was working on an outdoor sculpture commissioned for the Canadian Pavilion. Gathie Falk’s “Blue Running Shoes,” “4 Spec- tators” and “Bootcase. with Nine Black Boots,” the latter two purchased with Van- couver Art Gallery Women’s Auxiliary Gallery Shop Funds, are part of her 1973 series of a glazed earthen- ware men’s shoes. Andy Warhol's series of silkscreen prints “Electric Chairs” and “Mao Tse Tung,” on toan from the Longstaffe collection will also be on view. the door or through VTC outlets.
