Dear Editor: On Tuesday evening, July 21st, the District Council has scheduled a public hearing to consider rezoning of land in Deep Cove. This hearing should be of interest and concern to taxpayers in both the City and the District. For the past fifteen years the North Vancouver School Board has owned 3.8 acres of land in what ts referred to as the Cove Cliff site. For the past fiye years the School Board has been attempting to purchase an adjacent JY; become part of the school site. However, the District and raise our kids. Others gradually sold out and tall concrete was installed all around us. We stayed on thinking of the security of the investment — our house - ; a part of a highrise site. We finally paid off the mortgage out of pay cheques after 22 years. ‘Now it would seem council has the power to . the acres ta. Council is now moving with some urgency to have the 1% acres rezoned as park- land, which is the reason for public hearing on Tuesday night. The Distnct of North Vancouver Community Facilities Report indicates that in the immediate Deep Cove area approximately 80 acres are zoned parkland, recreaion and open space. Myrtle Park, Wickenden Park, and Deep Cove Park, DOWNZONE and DEVALUE our property from highrise to lowrise (25 ft.) Spot zoning ts what we are threatened with. Council is to vote on the downzoning of these few lots very soon. Let's hope they consider the moral aspects as well as the facts most carefully. The only saving grace, maybe, the relocation of stand, so that at least it will not be taking up the beautiful green space it now ruins. It is time that the District Council stopped playing games with this serious public issue.
