In announcing the cam- paign, Provincial Secretary and Minister of Travel Industry, Grace McCarthy said: ‘‘In the next few weeks you will be greeting many visitors to your province. Some will be old friends, others will .be first-time visitors. I hope that you will ‘go that extra mile’ and extend a very special wel- come to each of our guests so that we can be sure that everyone will want to return to British Columbia’’. The minister has particu- larly requested those em- ployed in the hospitality industry, in retail outlets and other visitor service loca- tions, to wear one of the multi-coloured ‘‘Smile But- tons’” to remind all that visitors are VERY IMPORT- ANT PEOPLE to everyone in our province. The campaign was launch- ed Monday in Vancouver by Minister McCarthy at a rally through special promotions, such as the Royal Hudson Tour and ithe minister’s Ten international artists, chosen from more than 300 _applicants from North, Cen- tral and South America, will live and work together in West Vancouver from July 1 to August 15. The artists will participate ‘‘Wood sculpture of the Americas--’77’’ sponsored by the municipality and Park Royal Shopping Centre. The site will be at Klee Wyck Park, 200 Keith Road, West Vancouver, where they will produce a unique collec- tion of large contemporary wood sculptures to adorn parks and public places, according to a release from Sculpture Symposium Soci- ety of B.C. The participants are: Chung Hung, Barry Cogs- well, and Calvin Hunt, all of B.C.; Hayden Davies and Joseph De Angelis, of Ontario; Hernando Tejata of Columbia; Robert Behrens, Barbara Spring and Fumio Yoshimura, of the United States; and Domenico Casa- santa, of Venezuela. Faced with the fact that Japanese whaling companies areexpanding their whale-kil- ling operations in countries which do not pay any attention to limitations set on the hunt by the International Whaling Commission, Greenpeace Foundation. has decided to send two full-scale antiwhaling expeditions to sea this summer. One of these expeditions, launched from Honolulu, will seek out the Japanese whaling fleets. The second -will set out from Vancouver in mid-July. -The Vancouver-based op- eration will involve the 150-foot former Royal Cana- dian Navy minesweeper ‘‘James. Bay,’’ which was used successfully by Green- peace last year to save roughly 1,400 sperm whales in the North Pacific.
