Shortly after the driver left his vehicle at about 4 p.m., the bus careered backwards down Lonsdale, snapped the power pole, ploughed inte a car and came to a rest just feet away from §} the. Queens Cross Pub, Witnesses at the scene said the driver left his bus at a bus stop . in the 3000-block Lonsdale:to aid an 18-year-old male who had been struck by a car at .- West: Kings and Lonsdale. Passengers managed to escape from the. bus, but. three people were sent to hospital. NORTH VANCOUVER RCMP arrested and charged two Lower Mainland men Wednesday with the 1981 North Vancouver murder of a 23-year-old native Indian woman. The body of Mary Ann Costin, who also went by the name Med- wayosh, was recovered froay Lyan Creek waters nevr Bridgman Park on the morning of Feb. 18. 1981. The Hamilton, Ontario woman's body had been spotted caught on at rock in the creek near the park by bus passengers and = motorists crossing the East Keith Road bridge. By MICHALI ws Keporter The victim was found wearing only jeans and clogs. A pathologist determined Costin had drowned, but that blows to her head by an assailant were so sevete that she would otherwise have died from a skull fracture. The pathologist's report also showed the dead woman had had sexual intercourse before she died. Charged with first degree murder are 29-year-old Jean Victor Beaulac of Delta and 25-year-old John Eldon Norris of Vancouver. While police investigation has been ongoing since TY8l, a five- month investigation by the local ROMP detachment and the ROMP Homicide Task Force culminated in the charges. Costin'’s identity remained a mystery until police managed to identify her during the past month. Norris was arrested early Wednesday in Vancouver and Beaulac was arrested in’ North Vancouver later in the day. Police are seeking public assistance in their effort to collect information regarding Costin. She is believed to have arrived in the Vancouver area in October 1980.
