Park not welcome Dear Editor: Earlier this year the wash- rooms and vouth drop-in cen- tre in Myrtle Park were burnt down by vandals and as yet the district, has not redevel- oped the sire. Lam now concerned by the possible proposed redevelop- nent of the site to include a preschool aad before and after school care facility. Deep Cove Parent Participation Preschool together oo with Parkgate Conmnunity Centre propose to erect a building of some 2,000 sq. tt. to be used by the preschool and as a care facility. This would of course com- pletely change what is at pre- sent a public park for use by everyone. It would mean that at all times of day (most likely 7 am. to 6 p.m.) the area would be used by a consider- able amount of children which would mean fess available space for local people and vis- itors who use the park. Quiet early morning walks through the ‘park or a play- date with only a coupie of children would be a thing of the past: The size of the build- ing invelved would presum- ably mean the cutting down of ‘trees ancl because of the facilities using the building it would bave to be fenced in. The increased tratlic and park- “ing would. also cause serious problems in the area. Constetlatios «Carré 1 feel thar a building simi- jar to the original would be mich more popular with the local community and visitors alike. Tt would also be for the use of the many rather than the few. Et is surprising that there has been no news of this proposed building in the local press and it dogs not appear er rane ; x cant ern pout that the general public has been made aware of what may happen to their park. TP can only think that the interested parties involved want to keep things quiet until it is too late for anyone opposed to the a te speak up. “The parks department have stated chat at this stage the exploration of any ideas: for the redevelopment of the site are preliminary and that ne decision has been made bur, | feel that they should ac least be making the local neigh- bourhood aware of what may Sy WE SELL TILE! beat and Granite, Slate, ‘ Borcelain, Limestone ete WE DON'T JUST ‘DASBLE’ IN TILE LIKE SOME STOKES... iTS ALL WE 00.
