‘expert’ ha rhetoric Dear Editor: Why are we constantly bombarded by David Sadler with negative rhetoric aimed against everything that North Vancouver District counci! says or docs? T have read so many times that Mr. Sadler and his “expert™ ratepayers association members have all the answers and that anyone who disagrees with their point of view is either stupid or totally misin- formed. Any person whose hobby scems to be denigrating council and opposing any pos- itive direction from anv source needs to look in the mirror and ask himself a simple question, “Why don’t [ get a life?” (Mr. adler is such an expert, why does he not run for mavor and show us what he can do? 1am sure the letters to the editor space could be more usefully filled with positive, informative opinions. Mr. MeCredie should have referred to the data F present- ed and then compared it with the data provided by Mr. Joyee from North Vancouver District. The main thrust of mv council presentation was based on the need for a dis- trict-wide traffic calming poli- cy and the need to learn from Garden Avenue’s lessons. The presentation cancen- trated on other traffic calming polices in Vancouver, Toronto, Montgomery County, U.S.A., and Israel. Nowhere in the presenta- tion was it mentioned that the traffic circle was “too much.” - The changes on Garden Avenue were welcomed by Lower Capilano residents. The main criticism was nize this ruling or clse launch a full-blown appeal and to all Canadians to the erosion of rights by this apology for a government in Victoria. How can people be so stu- pid as to let them get away with iv? Quentin Walker Vancouver quentin@axion.net that the circle should: have been built wider and thereby change old driving habits and possibly redirect the short- cutting, traffic back to Capilano Road, where it belongs. In Vancouver, short-cutting traffic is unac- ceptable. Garden Avenue has over 80% short-cutting traffic, even after the calming mea- sures Were initiated. The estimated 6,000 cars that use Garden Avenue dur- ing a given 24-hour period, use Garden Avenue even when there is no tratfie on Capilano Road. Capilano Road is congest- ed only during rush time. When the data presented by the district’s traffic engineers is analyzed, it shows that roughly 400 cars turn into Garden Avenue, south-bound during the morning rush time. According to district data, 85% of drivers who cut through our neighbourhood, drive 54.5 kmm-h or less. The other 15% by far exceed the 50 km-h speed limit. In other rights fight Dear Editcr: I was just going co fire off my views on the B.C. Human Rights Tribunal ruling against the North Shore News and Doug Collins, but upon reflection, refrained from doing so for fear of persecu- tion. Oh Canada, what has become of you! H.
