Contrary to popular opinion, or initial skepticism on the part of some employers, most jobs — from receptionist to factory worker to corporate vice president — can be shared between two partners. The key is planning. If your employer has not yet tried job sharing, your planning begins with putting together a pro- posal that details how the company will benefit from such an arrange- ment. One of the best arguments in favor of job sharing is that employ- ers get more for their money. First, two heads are often better than one. As well, employees sharing a job tend to be more productive. It's in the best interest of each job-shar- er to make sure his or her perfor- mance is top-notch. When that happens, they not only lose their investment, but also must bear the cost of training someone new and risk falling behind as she or he gets up to speed on the company’s systems and processes. Job sharing also benefits employers since employees can always be on the job during their partner's sick days, vacation time or maternity leave. In turn, clients can be confident that they will be fooked after by someone they know. Interview tips help potential employees WHEN YOU have landed that all-important job interview, follow these tips to ensure that you put your best foot forward. G Dress neatly and appropriately. Once your employer agrees to job sharing. take your time choosing a partner. Look for similar work styles and a willingness to share information. Talk about schedules.
