The cross-country trek will be the longest consumer iest-drive ever staged in Canada. The Stenbergs are part of a group of 30 Canadian families. from St. John's to Victoria, who have agreed to participate in the Chevrolet !.umina Discover Canada Tour. Families will depart from six Canadian cities — Vancouver, Calgary, Winnipeg. Toronto, Montreal and Halifax -—- on Saturday, Aug. 20, for the seven-day driving adventure. “The purpose of the Discover Canada tour is to test drive the all new, Canadian-built 1995 Chevrolet Lumina four-door sedan and to cele- brate the tradition of families taking to the open road together to see some of the most diverse and beauti- ful destinations Canada has to offer,” said Martin Walsh, General Director of Advertising for.General Motors of Canada. “We're all very excited, especial- ly about the mystery part — not knowing where we'll be going until the last minute,” said Hiroko Stenberg. Some of the destinations the British Columbia families will visit include the Legislative Buildings in Victoria, the artworks of downtown Chemainus on Vancouver Island, Pacific Rim Park and Long Beach on the west coast of Vancouver Island, Minter Gardens in the Fraser Valley, the restored gold-rush town of Barkerville. Mount Revelstoke, Hell's Gate on the Fraser River, his- toric Fort Langley and Kelowna, where Lake Okanagan will be scanned for a sighting of Ogopogo. General Motors will provide each family with a 1995 Lumina four-door sedan for one week, $1,200 (in cash or on a GM credit card) and a video camera to record their experiences. In return, each family has agreed to cover a distance of at least 2,000 km (1,240 miles) and record their travels on videotape. Although each family is free to plan its own itinerary, each will be guided by two predetermined desti- nations that will remained a mystery to them until today, the evening of their departure.
