A NEW provincial govern-
ment master plan outlines
steps to protect the
.tidepools, foreshore and
old-growth forest of
Botanical Beach Park,
Parks Minister John
Cashore and Malahat-Juan
de Fuca MLA Rick Kasper
announced recently.
_ The iong-term plan focuses on
protecting these special features of
the park, near Port Renfrew on
the west coast of southern Van-
couver Istand.

Visitors are now strictly pro-

hole-shaped tidepools support a
variety of marir.c flora and fauna,
including peviwinkles, sea urchins,
giant anemones and starfish.

The 351-hectare park, created
in 1989, also contains small stands
of old-growth coastal western
hemlock.

The park attracts approximately
40,000 people a year, including
many visitors from scientific and
educational institutions.
