The play concerns Herbert Tucker and his relationship with his daughter Libby, who Tucker leaves at age six in search of his own dreams — the footlights of Hollywood. When Libby grows up she decides to seck out Herb in order to capture the fatherly love she has never known. Director David Garfinkle said he was drawn to Simon's play because of the ‘*breadth of human emotion in it. Especially in the fact that two strong women (Libby and Herb’s on-again, off-again girlfriend Stef- fy) altect a man's tie, who must then take responsibility for his own life,"* says Garfinkle. “As well, the roles of the two women voice some of the concerns of women in the community.’* The play contains many comic and very tender moments, but there are also serious conflicts be- tween the characters. Actor Jerry Vivash makes his Presentation House debut as Herb, Corey Philly plays Libby and Diana Stevan portrays Steffy. Garfinkle teaches at the Firehalt Art) Centre’s Visible Minority Theatre Tiaining Program. Last year he directed Dark Horse Theatre’s Fragments From the Big Piece for the Vancouver Fringe Festival. { Ought To Be in Pictures runs until April 21. Phone 986-1351 for reservations.
