20 - Sunday, January 15, 1989 - North Shore News Quit smoking with the Y-Smoke program Y-SMOKE, THE YMCA’s na- tional quit smoking program, is currently being offered on the North Shore. The program is a comprehensive and common sense approach to the challenge of stopping smoking. It takes a holistic approach and is one component of the YMCA Program targets lifestyle programs. Recognizing that quitting smok- ing involves many lifestyle factors, the Y-Smoke program takes a multi-disciplinary approacn to quitting smoking. Participants first understand why they smoke, then develop strategies to step and fi- nally quit. teenage girls A FITNESS and lifestyle program designed exclusively for girls in their mid-teens is being offered by the North Shore YMCA. Bodywise is the first in a series of youth wellness programs that recognize and respond to the specific needs of young people. Fun and activity are the focus, and informal group discussions will consider the issues that are unique to the challenging stages of growth in the teen years. Bodywise members will meet twice a week for 10 weeks to work out, have fun and discover ways to look and feel their personal best. The latest in fitness and weight training will be introduced, and discussion topics will include body image and awareness, diet and nutrition, and current fashion trends. Bodywise begins with an intro- ductory session at 4 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 17 and meets every Tuesday and Thursday between 4 and 5:30 p.m. at the North Vancouver YMCA, 440 Hendry Ave. The cost of the program is $65 for 20 sessions, which includes a nutritional analysis and body lab.
