16 - Friday, February 6, 1987 - North Shore News A NORTH Vancouver ballerina who has been dancing since the age of six, takes to the stage Feb. 6 and 7 in Ballet British Columbia's first show this season. Charie Evans, 29, was lead dancer with Pacific Ballet Theatre before joining a fledgling Ballet British Columbia company last year as the prima ballerina. Evans’ ballet skill has landed her opportunities to join some of the country's top ballet companies but she has always opted to stay in the North Shore area. “TI felt it important a ballet company be started,”’ Evans said. **We needed a major company and it was exciting to be with a starting ballet company.” Dancing: professionally now for seven -years, Evans began her ballet career at a North Vancouver community centre 23 years ago. “It’s not there now but on Cap Road in the green barn was where I had ballet classes,’ remembered Evans. Last week, Evans and the com- pany were touring Vancouver Island, with stops in Victoria and Ucluelet. Before that, the company toured the Okanagan region. “The company: wants to be ac- cessible to all British Columbia,” said Evans. , Although a new company, Ballet British Columbia is already building audience support and is working on the foundation laid by the Pacific Ballet Theatre. “It’s exciting to be on the ground floor,” said company ballerina Evans. Evans and the Ballet B.C. com- pany are dancing at the Queen Elizabeth Theatre. Dogs to go on display DOG LOVERS will have the op- portunity to see 40 breeds of dogs at the Park Royal Mall this month. The Western Federation of In- dividuals and Dog Organizations (FIDO) is organizing the day-long display Saturday, Feb. 7 at the North Mall by Woodward’s. Display coordinator Nonie Sharp, of West Vancouver, said the aim of the display is to stress the importance of responsible dog ownership. .
