Fair hosted in Hong Kong AS THE world’s leading supplier of high-quality wool knitted ap- parel, Hong Kong recently played host to a second annual Wool Fair. Organized by the Hong Kong based International Wool Secretariat Office for the Solitheast Asian Countries, the event, held.in late October, at. the Shangri-La Hotel attracted some 4,000 visitors from all parts of the world. ; The event has extended its inter- national image to include many participants from various coun- tries, but the majority of the 5] exhibitors were from Hong Kong. Apart from the exhibition, a i3-scene fashion show was repeatedly shown to buyers and visitors during the three-day event. All the garments in the fashion show were created by three design- ers specially selected by the IWS, ‘Tuey were Franklin Chu = and Glovia Wong from Hong Kong, and Christina Tontini from Italy. The garments were made by local manufacturers with yarns and fabrics from world resources, in- cluding Italy, U.K., Japan, Korea and China. A total of 133 ensembles were featured in the fashion show, covering a wide range of fashions for fall/winter °87, from young casual wear to outdoor apparel, classic coordinates, and after-six creations. Though influenced by various sources, the fashions were unified by one philosophy — simplistic designs with the shapes playing se- cond fiddte to fabrics and color — bringing them in line with the look of the ’80s. In pursuit of comfort, the designers hailed the return to classics with the rediscovery of wool jerseys, and comfortable dressing was extended from casual sportswear to sensuous second-skin dresses for after-six. Casual sport- . swear took on the direction of practical and updated basics, using — worsted, crepe, fluid jersey vies,. with printed wool. For the more sophisticated couture fashion, the direction leaned towards shapely, figure- defining, feminine looks. " Hf SHAMPOOICUT mn A BLOW-DRY i Sp .
