In October over 16,000 copies of the booklet, Promise of World Peace were mailed out to house- holds on the North Shore by the Baha’i community. A quote from the peace message’ reads, ‘‘For the first time in histo- ry, it is possible for everyone to view the entire planet in one perspective. World peace is not on- ly possible but inevitable.” The message goes on to say that peace will not be achieved -until a univer- sal framework is adopted in which the organic unity of mankind is recognized. The peace meeting is being held as a conclusion to year-long activi- ties relating to the International Year of Peace. During the year copies of the peace: message were presented to Mayor Derrick Hum- phreys, MLA John Reynolds, MP Mary Collins, Mayor Marilyn Baker, Mayor Jack Loucks and other leaders of the North Shore community, including Noel Wright, Editor-in-Chief of the North Shore News. On the international and na- tional levels, the peace message was presented to the Secretary General of the United Nations and over 150 heads of state, including Brian Mulroney.
