Entertainment -_ Soprano sings seasonal music NORTH SHORE soprano Ingrid Suderman will sing seasonal music from Bach and Vivaldi Dec. 7 when her baroque aria ensemble performs in Vancouver. “We'll do the Christmas Can- tata by Scarlatti,’ said Suderman of the show at the Vancouver East Cultural Centre. ‘*Thatll be the main thing I'll be in.”* Suderman is the resident singer for the baroque aria ensemble The Musical Offering, meaning she does all the singing for the group’s performances. The six-member ensemble was formed in the 1985-86 season and is an integral part of the Van- couver East Cultural Centre’s masterpiece music series. Although she shys away from giving her age, Suderman admitted she had heen singing for a long time. “I guess | began as a profes- sional singer when [ won the Nor- thwest regional! metropolitan opera auditions in 1971,”’ she said. “And I went on to sing in Lin- coln Centre in New York.”’ Suderman’s performance in Messiah Highlights on KVOS-TV with the Vancouver Bach Choir and members of the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra has been shown across Canada and the United States over the past few seasons. “Wm not the budding young ar- tist,"’ joked Suderman, who hus just. released the record Sacred Arias, Sones and Spirituals featur- ing a variety of works. “Pm sort of midway | sup- pose,’ said the mother of two young children. On Dec. 12 and 13, Suderman will be the soprano soloist when the Vancouver Bach Choir presents Handel's Messiah at the Orpheum Theatre in Vancouver. No stranger to the Orpheum Theatre, Suderman performed works by Mozart last season when she sang there for the CBC series titled A Little Lunch Music. “T love singing at the Or- pheum,”’ she said.
