want reserves

members for. their -reserve
force, an auxiliary unit that

for regular members of the
force. :

’ Staff Sergeant Ed Pruner
says reserves accompany
uniformed police on even-
ings and weekends and put
in time on special occasions
when extra. manpower is
needed.

‘Applicants must be Cana-

dian citizens, have a grade
12, education or the
equivalent and be in good
physical condition. Pruner
says it also helps if they are
North Shore residents with a
good knowledge of the area.

Applicants, who will be
required to take an entrance
exain, are asked to contact
Pruner at 922-4141 between
8 a.m. and 4 p.m. Tuesday
through Thursday.

Fatai crash cause
still investigated

OFFICiALS OF the Cana-
dian Aviation Safety Board
(CASB) are predicting the
investigation into the plane
crash that claimed the lives
of two Lower Mainiand res-
idents, including a North
Vancouver man, could take
up to two months.

Syl Dzus, supervisor of
investigations for the CASB,
said Friday investigators are
still interviewing witnesses
and examining the wreckage
of the small, fixed-wing air-
craft that crashed and burn-
ed last Saturday.

Dzus said it has not yet
been determined whether the
crash was due to failure on
the pilot's part or whether
the accident resulted from
improper strength or im-
proper construction of the
plane. Preliminary examina-
tion has indicated structural
failure was at least partly to
blame for the crash. /

“There’s a number of fac-
tors to consider,”’ said Dzus.
“tt will be a considerable
time before anything
definitive comes out of the
investigation.”’ /
~ Daus said once; the prelim-
inary investigation is com-
pleted, an. examination will
be conducted in the CASB
lab. He said two CASB in-
vestigators are currently
handling the bulk of the in-
vestigation, but added that
specialists will likely later be
called in to handle the metal-
lurgical end of the investiga-

red at 12:30 p.m. February
16, with the aircraft crashing
near 168th Street, just north
of the Fraser Highway in
Surrey.

According to witnesses of
the crash, the plane had ap-
parently been attempting
some aerobatic maneuvers

when the wings snapped up
and the plane subsequently
plunged to the ground.

Killed in the crash were
60-year-old Richard John
Hewson of Hoskins Road in
North Vancouver, a passen-
ger at the time of the crash,
and the 53-year-old pilot,
Harry Trarup of Gladstone
Drive, Surrey.
