Government House Leader Yvon Pinard said Thursday the proceedings may be televised, provided the presence of cameras does not in- terfere with the com- - mittee’s work, During the heated debate on the govern- ment’s proposals Thursday, Conservative MPs demanded the committee sitting be televised to allow Canadians to hear all witnesses, presentations and amendments to the proposals. Tory Leader Joe Clark pressed Prime Minister Pierre Trudeau to have the committee proceedings heard, but Trudeau insisted it was up to the committee — which wil] hold a majority of Liberals — to decide. The debate, which has been going on for the past three weeks, came to an end Thursday when the House voted 132 to 112 in favor of a closure motion. The 25-member com- mittee was expected to be formed this week. Provinces soon to go to court WINNIPEG (UPC) - Legal proceedings could begin as early as _ this week against the federal government's plans _ to unilaterally patriate the constitution, Six provincial attorneys general announced after a one-day meeting. Court. challenges will be launched in Quebec, Newfoundland and Manitoba, while the governments of Alberta, British Columbia and Pnace Edward Island will take part in the litigation, the provincial ministers said. The attorneys general met for six hours Thursday to coordinate plans for a legal challenge to Prime Minister: Pierre Trudeau's scheme for amending and patriating the constitution from Britain without provincial consent. The Coach House meeting was the first to be held in the Vancouver area in a cam- paign to recruit new members by Alexander McQuirter, a Toronto Klan organizer. He is appearing in Vancouver and _ Victoria, promoting the Klan’s political arm, the Nationalist Party of Canada.
