B.C. Liberals to
vote on leader

SPRINGS, B.C. (UPC) - The
British Columbia Liberal
party, plagued with money
problems, will hold a
leadership convention within
a year.

Delegates to the party's
annual convention Sunday
decided at closure to meet
again to elect a leader within
12 months even though Jev
Tothill, who said he will be a
candidate, has been at helm
less than two years.

The teacher from Duncan,
B.C., told delegates and
reporters the party was in
sad financial shape.

Tothill said he had been
using his own money for
travel and hving expenses
over the past 14 months,
submitting his bills to party
headquarters.

McLoughlin said the party
would have to concentrate
on raising enough funds to
attract a strong leader.

Senator Ray Perrault, the
only B.C. minister in the
federal cabinet, said the
party’s organization needed
improving.

“If there are executives on
paper and these executives
are not working they should
be removed in a democratic

way and working executives
should be elected.” Perrault
said.
