Store owner Jean-Pierre LeBlanc and his wife Kate introduced the shop’s new concept and product line last weekend at the Weliness Show held at Vancouver’s Trade and Convention Centre. Aroma Joy is the name of the new shop and a completely natural line of skincare which draws on the healing powers of aromatherapy and uses only botanical food components. herbal extracts and essential oils. ‘While organic farms in the Kootenays and Oregon provide most of the food ingredients, pricey extracts and oils must be flown in from around the world: eucalyptus from Australia, geranium and laven- der frorn France, lemon from South Africa. . Though the ingredients may sound fairly common, it’s no use trying to whip up a home-made beauty concoc- tion. You'll never arrive at a concen- tration that works. The conversion of the LeBlancs* three Faces cosmetic stores — the Guildford Town Centre and White Rock stores were redesigned earlier this year — to Aroma Joy aromather- apy boutiques had been planncd for some time, according to LeBlanc, who admits to a longstanding interest in all-natural skincare. But before now, the public wasn't willing to accept the practise of healing with aromatic oils. Now, “Aromatherapy is exploding,” enthuses LeBlanc. The LeBlancs’ four-step Aroma Joy skincare program starts with a cleanser, made of ground oats, orange, ylang-ylang and vitamin E oils, followed by a toner, whose revi- talizing ingredients include rose, chamomile, aloe vera and essential ails of rose, thyme, lemon, neroli and myrrh. To restructurize, the third step, an elixir of a concentrated blend of skin nutrients is applied to the face and body. Only a few drops of a select formulation of essential oils is need- ed. To protect and nourish, the final step, there is Moming Glory, with lavender and camomile, for daytime use, or Sweet Dreams for nocturnal replenishment. While the complete Aroma Joy line of skincare cosmetics and bath products is currently available at the Quay’s Faces boutique, the store itself has yet to undergo a complete facelift. Before the end of April though, the LeBlancs’ locally manufactured prod- ucts will be housed in display cases that take their inspiration from an old- style apothecary and the store will formally adopt the Aroma Joy name. e009 Pioneering another direction in : Selection ail month 1527 Lonsdale Ave. 985-8322 skincare is American cosmetics giant Estee Lauder. What may seem like an obsession to some is really a lifelong passion for Ivan Sayers, the former curator of history at the Vancouver Museum and a col- lector of period costumes from mid- [8th century to presem day. Sayers recently invited the media into his clothes-filled home to view just a smal] sampling of his amazing collection, which includes pieces from Dior, Chanel, Worth and Simpson Sears. The occasion was the introduction of the Original Costume Museum Society to the Vancouver community. The society was formed last year by Sayers, fellow collector Claus Jahnke and a core group of costume enthusiasts who have as their goal to apen the city’s first costume and tex- tile museum. Their first priority is to tind a building in which to house the vast collection of period garments collect- ed by society members. The perfect facility? A church, says Sayers, would be ideal -— already zoned for public assembly, a large hall with removable pews, a kitchen, washrooms, storage and parking. Anyone who knows of such a place or who wants to become involved can contact the society at 874-5631. In the meantime, Sayers and the society are busy preparing to mount a fundraising’show (see story page 17) next Sunday, March 27 at the Vancouver Academy of Music in . Vancouver, Says Sayers of his incredible col- lection of literally thousands of his- torical garments und accessories, “I’ve spent a lifetime-of putting this stulf together, now it’s time to show Vancouver the world.” WANTED CLIENTS WITH GREAT EXPECTATIONS Free 1 hour facial when you book a pedicur Value $50 Esthetician Nasrin © 10 years experience » formerly of Bianches © Paris trained 48 An opportunity for you to experience our services and for us to win you over as a regular customer.
