Moving the show (which kicks off today) from January has meant that visitors get to see far more new vehicles than they would ever have done with the old schedule, which conflicted with other auto shows around North America and even overseas. This year, visitors will even gel to see pew cars, vans and trucks that were denied atten- dees at the big Canadian International Auto Show, staged recently in Toronto. 1 love auto shows as much as the next car buff and I’ve already attended three this year — Detroit, Toronto and Geneva. Chrysler sees the PF as a youth market product, but I woulda’t be at all surprised to see a few old-timers behind the wheel cemuniscing fondiy about the street rads of the tate “40s. Chrysler will also be show- ing its dramatically-styled Hemi convertible concept which was one of the big hits of the Detroit show. Industry insiders believe that Chrysler may actually build this car as an upseate ragtop, General Motors is cock-a- hoop about its SUV double- whammy of the Pontiac Aztck and Chevrolet Avalanche. Parent company Toyota is showing its new Camry Solara convertible, which is built in Canada, and also the V-8 powered Sequoia — a full-size SUV based on the new Tundra pickup. People who really care about fuel economy will be heading for the Honda stand and the Insight hybrid — the first gasoline /eleciric vehicle ever sold in North America. The Insight not only offers staggering fuel economy, it manages to look good too. Radiators | 3 TOWARD ANY COOLING !
