WHAT? Another four years of Der Fuehrer? I feel ill every time his cocky phiz comes on the box. It's an ill wind that blows no good, though. David Schreck was clobbered. Congratulations, North Vancouver-Lonsdale. Dr. Collins did a little dance when that news broke. But Pll bet that Schreck won't have to go out and carn a real living. He will either become a commissar with the Thought Policc or get a job polishing the party brass. Another penny from heav- en was that Charan Gill went down the drain in Surrey- Cloverdale. He is a dedicated Marxist who appealed bla- __ tantly to the East Indian vote. What to make of it ali? People can still be bribed with their own money, and trickery wins. Der Fuehrer’s latest trick is that he will change his name from Glen |. Clark to Glen Humble. Try notto laugh, = There were a hundred rea- sons why the NDP should have lost but with the help of a stumbling opposition Clark crowed three times a day. ft . took taient for Gordon. - Campbell to blow a 30-point lead. It helped, of course, that * BCTV was NDP friendly. The Friday before the election the media fell over Ignore’ Collins’ ‘columns Dear Editor; Commendations are in order for all who have chai- lenged in print the insane ramblings of Doug Collins. “ One might wonder why the North Shore News con- tinues to give space to his sniveling racism and whining hatred (all in the name of free speech, of course), until real- izing that Collins’ viewpoints must be amenable to the pub- lisher. So be it. A good reason to discount the lot. So this is my encourage- ment: simply ignore the pab- lication in general’ and Collins in particular. Think about it. Would the prime minister take seriously the repeated ravings of a six- year-old? Of course not. Would the adult children of a father in the advanced stages of Alzheimer's seriously con- sider his advice concerning stock investments? Of course not. They would care for him as a person. but recognize that his counsel originates in some. other world than reali- ty, and, hence, ignore it. Raving six-year-olds and parents with Alzheimer’s are often with us for some time. | suspect the same will be true of Collins. Therefore, please join me in ignoring Collins’ drivel in print. Its just not worth tak- ing seriously. D. Randall Faro North Vancouver tory. len Hur Dou Collins on the other hand themselves pretending that the silly “secret deals” affair with Larry Gillanders really mattered, You have to hand it to Clark, though. The little humbug created the impres- sion that the Liberals were the big money party when in fact the NDP was. Money was no object for it. The “ifs” of history are already grinning at us. Take the Gordon Wilson thing. IF Gordon Wilson had- n’t sacrificed everything for his girlfriend Judi when he was running the Liberal Party, and IF he had found it easier to get along with his other MLAs, he would surely have led the Liberals to vic- He was the one who put them back on the map and he is the brightest guy on the political scene: He knows how to go for the jugular and would have been more than a match, for Clark. I'm glad he’s back in the legislature but his © Progressive Democratic Alliance will never be more f The Boys at Grimsholmen j a oe a Dear Tilley's: than a political footnote. Campbell should ask him to rejoin the Liberals but I doubt whether the Campbell is big enough to do that. Wilson would be a threat Another UF is Jack Weisgerber and the Reform Party, IF he had gone to the Liberals in the first place instead of opportunistically becoming the captain of the Reform ship it is doubtful that Clark would have been smiling today. By my count, a vote for Reform was a vote for the NDP in 14 ridings. Weisgerber wrongly spent as much time attacking Campbell as aiming at the socialists. But there was a reason for that. He told Charles Maclean the open- liner that before the election began he had offered Campbell a cealition. Campbell's response was that if the Reformer wanted to join the Liberals he could apply for a membership, so sure was he at that time that his party would glide to vic- tory. Now, for better or for worse, the momentum does lie with the Liberals. Fringe parties don’t win unless they can seize the moment and run with it, as happened with Reform federally and with the Liberals under Wilson. Speaking of fringes, the Gillanders affair has to be the political joke of the century. What ever made him think he could revive Social Credit? He can’t even think straight. And having entered the hunt with no ammunition, what made him imagine he 4 October 31, 1995 Cloverdale, B.C. It was all pure idiocy and in offer- ing to trade 20 ridings for one the only target he hit was the Liberals. Clark must have been delighted with him. One more thing. The North Shore News led the press of the whole province in emphasizing the NDP threat to free speech and in defying the NDP's gag laws.
