", Although the most recent attack

on Doug Collins — by the Canadian
.. Jewish Congress (CIC) through the

Human Rights ‘Council — ‘spurred

me to write, the true motivation is

that this auack is only a symptom of

a far greater sickness — the dis-
placement of traditional Canadian
values of freedom, individuality and
tolerance with the narrow, self-serv-
ing demands of sell-interest groups.

Some of these ure home-grown
but most are imported.

Collins needs no defence by me
or anyone else, but if the “silent
majority” does not sbesome more
vocal and’ active, the, Canada we
grew up. in and fought for will
silently disappear,

Control of communications is of
course a vital part of control of cul-
ture; thus the continuing attacks on
- Collins, who is the only journalist f
know not continually Hexing his
knee to the noisy.minorities:

We all know what happened fo
politically. incorrect. books -
~ Hitler's Germany, a natural conse:
~ quence.-of tyrannical control’. pre-
dicted by John Milton in'1644 when
he wrote (paraphrased):

book. Who kills a’ man kills a rea-
sonable creation, God's image; but

he who destroys a good book, kills -

Al some point, those of us who

believe’ that traditional, Canadian
values are worth protecting must
take a stand, and this: latest pending
persecution of Collins seems to pro-
vide a good standing point. We need
a show. of support. political and
financial, for Doug Collins.

| urge those who believe in
responsible freedom of the press to
write a note to the editor of the

. North Shore News expressing that

belief. ; !

This will. provide an indication
of the level of interest in the com-
munity and wi)l be used for no other
purpose,

Perhaps we should launch a Free
Speech Defence Fund to aid Mr.
Collins and the North Shore News.
