Fashion Focus has long been a popular part of the PNE program, and this year will feature an array of booths selling fashion and beauty products in the area of the newly enlarged stage in the Pacific Showcase Building. Several fashion shows will take place daily and proposals for tak-' ing part are invited from design- ers, manufacturers, and store owners, Applications will be ac- cepted from booth exhibitors as well as other members of the fash- ion industry. Fashion Focus '93 is a great opportunity for both up-and- coming and established designers Canadians to be featured in New York A SPECIAL Canadian section will be introduc-. ed at the Aug. 28 to 31. presentation of the In- ternational Fashion Boutique Show in New York City. .- Both apparel and = ac- cessories will be showcased in this 67th edition of the event, ‘which includes more than 3,000 collections from the -U.S. and Canada. The event’s organizers say that the Canadian pavilion ‘will be an ideal opportunity for women’s wear designers ‘and manufacturers to gain a foothold in the U.S. market. They will gain exposure to numerous American retailers through the show, which is the U.S.’s largest women’s wear trade show. It attracts an audience of more than 20,000 retailers each season. to showcase their talents. Applicants may either produce their own shows, or take advan- tage of the expert fashion show production facilities now being offered by the PNE. For all shows there is free use of the stage and T-ramp, a well- equipped dressing room, and lighting and sound systems. For the professionally produced PNE fashion shows, there is a modest charge to cover production expenses, including reoducer, choreographer, mod ., emcee, makeup, hairdresser, _ ops, music programming, and publicity. ‘“The PNE is delighted to en- courage the fashion industry with this new program to present cre- ative and professional shows, ap- pealing to the large audiences that will visit the Pacific Showcase,”’ says Mehri Farbod, the PNE’s fashion show producer. ‘‘We look FASHION Fashion Focus ’93 to be at forward to offering a wide range of fashion shows and pres- entations, which will include hair, makeup, self-improvement and accessaries.”” Beoth space and shows are al- ready well booked, so applicants are urged to apply without delay in order to ensure a place. All the garments are made and modelled by amateurs, and the shows are choreographed by the PNE's fashion coordinator. Models are given hair, makeup and accessory tips at rehearsal time, and the shows are presented to standing-room-only crowds.
