Any Learn boating safety THOUSANDS OF local pleasure boaters take to the saltchuck each spring, creating dangerously crowded conditions in the waters of the southern B.C. coast. Imperfect understanding of safe coastal! navigation and the princi- ples of collision avoidance increase the risk of accidents for many mariners. This spring, North Shore Conti- nuing Education offers a range of courses to improve the safety of local boaters and help them take full advantage of their navigational equipment. The courses will include Coastal and Celestia! Navigation, and the use of Loran and radar, Loran-C receivers and radar simulators will be provided at the Pacific Marine Training Institute's state-of-the-art navigation lab. These practical, hands-on classes involve very little theory and are open to any interested member of the public. Most are co-sponsored by the Pacific Marine Training Institute and will be held in their classrooms at 265 W. Esplanade in North Vancouver.
