Students study abroad THROUGH INTERCULTURE Canada, a leading international student exchange organization, high school students across the country can enjoy the unique and rewarding adventure of studying abroad. This not-for-profit organization specialized in intercultural fearn- ing, is now concluding this year’s search for students, aged 15 to 18, interested in the challenge of living and studying in any one of over 30 countries around the world. “Ambassadors of friendship,” seems 2 fitting term for these stu- dents, according to Paul Beel, public relations coordinator for Interculture Canada. ‘Essentially, these youngsters are involved in breaking down barriers. By living with a host family and attending a local high school, their experience moves, step by step, toward total immersion into a2 new society. It’s an apprenticeship whose rewards last a lifetime.’’ Departure dates reflect the school calendar of the host coun- departure can be as early as Feb- ruary. For Caribbean and Euro- pean destinations, iricluding the U.S.S.R., departure is set for next summer. In bach cases, students are urged to submit their applications by December. Interculture Canada and _ its partner countries require time to ensure program quality. Finding a suitable host yamily, taking care of school enrolment and ensuring the presence of a volunteer counsellor for the student are all part of maintaining that quality. Participation fees are all- inclusive and may be compared to the amount often spent on an ado- lescent over an 11-month period.
