For the second year the exhib- ition, sponsored by the West Van- couver Community Arts Council in conjunction with the Coho Festival Committee and CHQM, presented the work of artists from the North Shore and other communities, all working on the ‘salmon’ theme. The program, which got underway Tuesday, is designed to unite fathers and their chijdren through participation in recreational and outdoor activities. WV library program makes reading fun FOR THE second summer in a row, 100 West Vancouver children participated in a unique reading Program at the West Vancouver Memorial Library. Once a week each child met with a professional children’s librarian. Through regular contact and by keeping written profiles of each reader, librarians were able to match their knowledge of children’s literature to each child’s interests and abilities. As incentives to progress, the li- brarians awarded bookmarks, stamps and books. A generous donation of paperbacks from Vancouver Magazine Service, in conjuction with some national publishers, allowed staff to pro- vide prizes for every dedicated reader. Lonsdale Ave, During a recent presentation ceremony at Park Royal, Mayor Derrick Humphreys announced Vancouver artist Eva Zbar’s work had been selected by the jurors to be purchased for the permanent collection of the future West Van- couver Arts Centre. Zbar’s work, Chinook Salmon, is a one of a kind, oil monoprint and watercolor. Her technique is a traditional Japanese printmaking method that uses the actual fish. The following artists were given Honorabie Mention for their work: Nell MacDonald, Mary C. Davis, Tai Shoai, Earla Weiss, T.J. White and Don Wimbles. The exhibition will take place again nex: year on the weekend after Labour Day, so artists, start thinking about it now.
