By ANGELA AND FORD BOTHWELL Everyone has (or should have) a secret Shangri-La, where he or she can get away from the rat race for a while and recharge the mental batteries. Ours is on a_ beautiful piece of canoeing river, where we have a _per- manently-based travel trailer, a couple of canoes and some of the best friends we've ever made. It had been a couple of months since we had been there, and we needed to get away. After a three-hour drive, we found our river- front trailer intact, though we had to break a maze of cobwebs as we entered. A startled field mouse, seeing that civilization had returned, raced across the floor and out the open door. When we went outside to turn on the propane gas so we could cook dinner, we saw a mother robin and three young ones occupying a nest on top of the gas tank. We gingerly turned on the other tank so we wouldn't disturb them. We ate dinner, watching the mother robin shove worms down the gullets of her babies and watching canocists drift lazily down US Navy Four speakers will present their view on what the issues are and whether or not concern is justified: George Carruthers, lawyer and current member of the Hospital Board; Marlene Hunter, M.D.; Declan Lawlor, Dentist and current member of the Hospital the quiet river. As darkness settled in, some friends who were camping nearby stopped to say hello. We sat outside in the dark around the picnic table, chatting about old times. Suddenly, we heard a loud scratching noise in one of the trees. Our spotlight picked up a fat oppossum clawing his way up the trunk to enjoy a night of peaceful sleep. Before we turned in, a sweep of the river with our spotlight uncovered a deer drinking at the river's edge. He looked up briefly and resumed drinking. Next morning, the sound of honking geese awoke us, and we looked out of the' trailer in time to see their V- shaped formation over the river. We dressed and quickly put a canoe in the water, The trout were feeding, and a half hour's work with the spinning rods produced two beauties, which we enjoyed for breakfast. Three days passed all too quickly. We had to force ourselves to return home. A Shangri-La has a way of doing that. You spend a couple of days savoring the wonders of nature and you begin to think you don't need rops sex charges BEACH, Calif.(UPI) - The com- mander of the USS Norton Sound dropped charges today against the final four women sailors accused of homosexual activities aboard the ship. A navy spokesman said the decision was reached after consulting with the navy prosecutors in charge of the case and reviewing testimony taken during the administrative hearings of the first four female crewmembers. The spokesman said the commanding officer of the Norton Sound has met personally with cach of the four remaining sailors and told them of his decision. The hearing board aboard the ship Wednesday ruled a second woman sailor be given a gencral discharge under honorable conditions because she had a Lesbian love affair with a shipmate. The board recommended that Fireman Recruit Wendi Williams, 25, of the Bronx, N.¥. be discharged for her homosexual activity with Alicia Harris. 18. of Chicago A previous hearing board had recommended that Miss Harris be discharged.
