ATTORNEY General Ujjal Dosanjh decision to disarm this province's volunteer police auxiliaries some three weeks ago has raised some interesting debate on the issue of public safety. Dosanjh told the media that the reserves were never intended to be out there with guns and that he wouldn’t want them confronted with a dangerous sit- _ uation, putting “them and the public in harm’s way.” I suppose the immediate image that might justify such a statement is one of semi-trained officers drawing their weapons in situations that their. full-time counterparts would not. So, what exactly is the level of training that ‘the auxiliaries receive and how many “incidents” have there been?
