Objects, collections and acces-
sories can also be the focal point of
an interior. In such homes, objects,
collections and accessories dominate
other furnishings; they attract imme-
diate attention, while furniture,
floors and walls are chosen to sup-
port the accessories, rather than the
other way around.

This works especially well when
the space itself has no outstanding
characteristics, when it is a box with
straight walls and ceiling. It also
works well when furniture and
floors are very ordinary or when fur-
niture has been purchased in second-
hand stores or has been “inherited.”

Instead of being seen as single
objects, the accessories and collec-
tions are organized and placed in
such a way that they catch immedi-
ate attention and are seen as units
rather chan individual pieces. The
overall effect is one of interest and
excitement.

Each visit to such a home is a
new adventure, as one discovers pre-
viously unseen objects and treasures.

design, are simple and straightfor-
ward and are played down to cast
the objects in a central role.

The overall effect is one of inter-
est and adventure, it has an ever-
changing element of surprise.
