first summer season of games, and

friends are the chief goals of the
league. The average age of the
: players is 36, ranging from 29 to
‘53, and over 50% are novices.

Many of the women became in-
volved in the league after wat-
ching their own children enjoy the
benefits of the world’s most popu-
lar game. Some. joined just to
show their kids they could do it.

- This winter four teams-are play-
ing on the North Shore; one from
West Van, and three from North
Van. It is hoped that other over-
30 women’s recreational soccer
leagues will start up following the
success of the North Shore
League. At present the Metro
Vancouver women’s league, open
to any woman over the age of 18,
is closely watching the progress on
the North Shore.
