Mahood settled into a groove,
heeding pre-race warnings from
race officials to keep on the
course and out of the trackside
mud. He then watched as fellow
front-runners Frank Allers (gear-
box, black Mag), Rick Payne (off
track, fattened tire), and Trevor
Scibert. (black flag) excused
themselves from the proceedings.

Mahood, now in third to stay,
was never threatened, and would
be preceded to the checkered flag
only by Port Moody's Tony Mor-
tis and Kevin Dowler of Edmon-
ton.

“This result is for the crew.
Rick, Dave, Daniel, and Pete have
made a lot of sacrifices over the
last couple of years. They're the
best crew in the business, and it
was good to see them at the podi-
um after the race,’” said an en-
thused Mahood later.
