10 - Wednesday, May 2, 1990 - North Shore News W. Vancouver School Board story clarified WEST VANCOUVER District 45 School Board chairman Jean Ferguson has disputed information _in an April 25 News story outlining the board’s policy proposal regard- ing a Caulfeild Plateau land parcel. In the News story, school super- intendent Doug Player was said to have proposed that the 13 acres the board owns across the street from the Caulfeild Village shopping cen- tre should be sold to raise money for improvements elsewhere in the school district. But Ferguson has since told the News that such a proposal was not stated anywhere in Facilities for the Future, Player’s bound volume of proposals for the development of School District 45’s buildings and lands in the coming years. According to the News reporter’s notes, Player told trust- ees verbally at a March 26 board meeting dealing with his plan: **We have very valuable land — 13 acres on the Caulfeild Plateau. The purchase price was $288,000. We have land far beyond our needs in the early 21st century and we must sell some of that land. We have some of the best flat land to be had in this community.” Later, at the same meeting, Player said of the Caulfeild Plateau property: ‘‘The population is not there now to support a high school.’’ In his written proposal, Player observed that ‘‘housing develop- ment is active in this area.” In his written report, Player also proposed that both Hillside Middle and Hollyburn Elementary Schools be torn down and the land rezoned and sold. On May 14, trustees will vote on whether to adopt Player’s propos- ed plans. ENRICH YOUR FAMILY LIFE Host an overseas student. Remuneration for room and board. Short or long terms available.
