One caution: be prepared to
spend an hour or so just findiag
your way around your suite, or, if
you can’t spare the time, request a
set of floor plans from the con-
cierge. Once that is done, you'll be
well at ease among the two
bathrooms, huge, plush living
room, complete kitchen and bar,
shower room, dressing room and
bedroom.

Despite the black lacquered
grand piano in the living room, the
king-sized bed, three remote-cun-
trolled televisions and numerous
original artworks, the real luxury is
to be found in the expansive mar-
ble bathroom, one wail of which is
composed mostly of glass through
which you can view the arrival and
departure of cruise ships, tugboats,

helicopters and seaplanes in Van-
couver’s busy harbor.

Here, you can bask in your
whirlpool tub of watch the world
go by from your sauna on the
hotel’s 23rd storey. Rinse off
under the four jets in the glass-
block shower room, and, if you're
feeling peckish, call room. service

from the telephone beside the
toilet.
Once refreshed, it’s time for
dinner.

Pacific restaurant you choose, rest

ragout, a perfectly-done rack of
lamb served with an unusual
Sulton flan, traditional and
avant-garde salads and innovative
appetizers.

Or venture across to the Suntory
restaurant and enter the world of
the Orient. If you’ve never tried
Japanese food before, don't let
that trifling consideration rob you
of this exotic experience. Head
waiter Ned Boyden specializes in
explaining the cuisine to novices.

Although you can have your
own Japanese traditional private
tatami room, many first-timers will
enjoy the room where one can
order teppan-yaki, or, ‘food done
on the grill.”

A specially-trained chef
will chop, season, and grill your
dinner while you watch. Feeling
daring? Jellyfish and beef tongue
will fit the bill. Not yet willing to
abandon your culinary roots? Stick
to Chateau Briand or the scallops
~- always a good choice.

Given the marveilous service and
facilities at the Pan Pacific, there
are cnly two aspects of this hotel
that can make even the highest
roller feel humble — the awe-
