Only cone problem arose at the
very last minute. It seems that
Susan’s mother was flying in her
favorite hairdresser from San
Francisco, where the Jeffreys have
a second home, to take care of all
the young women’s coiffures.

Unfortunately, the fellow had in-
jured his back, and couldn’t come.
They were lucky to get local hair
stylist, Daniel of Suki’s on Robson,
to step in at the last minute, and to
come to their home to make sure
everything was just right for the
ladies’ coiffures.

And according to my _ spies,-

everything was! The happy couple
is now honeymooning in Hong
Kong ...

Royal for a champagne reception
was Lord Balfour of inchrye, the
renowned diamond historian,
connoisseur of the world’s finest
diamonds, and aucor of the book
“Famous Diamonds.”

former owner of Roger's Motors,
which became Royal Pontiac,
which is now a very large pile of
rubble at the corner of Marine
Drive and Taylor Way, awaiting
the birth of the infamous twin
towers.

A pause with The Pez ... Joe Martin, founder of the
Howe Street Awards, and wife Mary Ellen rub
shoulders with the celebrated stock promoter.

Besides writing books and arti-
cles on the precious stones, Lord
Balfour writes operas, which is
why he especially enjoyed the
Gene Ramsbottom Trio and their
Mozart selections at the pleasant
soiree.

Birks’ special clients were
treated to a dazzling display of the
jewelry siore’s national prestige
diamond collection as well as
featured replicas of the world’s
most famous diamonds. And, of
course, the select guests had all
polished up their own distinctive
baubles to add to the glittering
evening.

And it was delightful to meet
West Vancouver's Agnes and

Lord Balfour, who has been in
the diamond industry for the past
37 years and has published
numerous articles about them,
works in London at a leading dia-
mond brokerage house. and
resides in Scotland with his wife,
Lady Josephine.

He pointed out that although the
flash and fire of a rare diamond
makes it desirable, it’s the sense of
mystery, intrigue, romance and
magic that continues to make
diamonds the most-prized, the
most treasured gem.

ted that she does have several very
nice diamonds but rarely wears
