LYNN VALLEY artist Gerhilde
Stulken will be exhibiting her
watercolors at Lasercolor Printing
in North Vancouver from March
17 to 19.

Originally from West Germany,
Stulken uses vibrant colors to
depict scenes of nature. Working
with rich blues, fiery reds and
purples, Stulken’s paintings are
inspired by the flowers in her
own garden, and reflect her love

Valley artist
| displays works

for color and form.

Her background in fashion
design and experience as a
cosmetician have also contributed
to Stulken’s excellent eye for col-
or.

Stuiken’s work can be viewed
at 215-1433 Lonsdale Ave., from
6:30 to 10 p.m. on March 17, on
Saturday March 18 from 12 noon
to 6 p.m. and on March 19 from
12 until 5 p.m.

From the lips of lead vocalist
Eddi Reader, every sensual line of
a song is planted on the ears like a
kiss.

The Scottish native heads a
quartet refreshingly direct in ap-
proach. There’s Reader as the
crystal-voiced chanteuse,
guitarist-song veriter Mark Nevin,
Simon Edwards on something
called guitaron, a Mexican
acoustic bass guitar, and Roy
Dodds on drums.

The songs on this sparkling
debut are positive, romantic
gestures and were sparingly re-
corded in three weeks flat, as
one-shot studio takes. The music,
produced by Sinead O'Conner
and U2 engineer Kevin Moloney,
shuffles lightly along in soft-edged,
swing-out jazz mode.

after they've put out their best

This set of bizarre messages, the
wacky handiwork of the Brooklyn,
New York-based team of john
Flansburgh and john Linnell,

The two have stumbled through
the junk-food culture of America,
eaten heartily at the buffet and
have returned to our turntables a
platter full of quirky observations
and incongruous musical styles.

The Johns are truly warped, but
