Dos and don’ts for fail Consider these tips on how to wear latest runway trends Carol Crenna FASHION STATEMENTS WE'RE NOT saying there’s a wrong way or a right way to dress this sezson. Dress codes and rules can be sti- fling, if you let them. Conflicting messages from mag- azines and overly creative coordi- nation on fashion show runways can cause confusion about exactly how the latest trends are supposed to be worn. No one wants to create clothing clones, or curb personal style. We know you can trust your good judgment and won't be lost without strict guidelines. But to clear up any hesitation when dressing in fall's new propor- tions, shapes and colors, the North Shore News offers the following “dos and don’ts” for dressing. ® Do add faux fur trim to the cuffs and collar of a winter-weight suit jacket or to the hood of a heavy sweater. @ Don’t start wearing your bright- colored fake furs from years past. What's modern is real-looking fakes or pastels. @ Don’t be tempted to wear the new, higher heels (averaging three inches) with pants. Flats and low heels are the appropriate height, especially with wider styles. © Do puli out last year’s evening velvets; especially pants, narrow skirts and simple dresses. Layer them under suit jackets and sweaters. ® Do shorten a classic kilt. Hf you seldom wear your tartan, you'll get more use from it this fall as a fash- ionable pleated mini. , © Don’t shorten your long straight skirts from last fall even though most skirts are now short. It looks sloppy unless it’s layered with sep- arates. @ Do change the buttons on cardi- gans, jackets, coats and blouses for an update. Military metal or richly detailed buttons are a good choice for full. ¢ Do layer your finely knit turtle- necks and crewnecks under sleeve- less dresses and jynpers. @ Do have your looser cut and wide-legged jeans taken in. Straight boot-cuts are best now. @ Do borrow a suit vest from his closet if you don’t have one of your own. Even better if it has pinstripes or a tweed teature. ? Do make sure the new slimmer jackets fit before you buy them. The latest shapes are cut narrower through the shoulders, back and waist. Check that the back doesn’t pull when you fold your arms; that armholes don’t feel tight; that the nipped-in waistline sits at your waist and the front lies flat at your chest. Do try the latest shades of AS brown and grey even if you've been avoiding them for years. The latest rich red-browns and blue-greys can add warmth to your skinione. @ Don't buy the latest cropped sweater styles if you have anything to hide at your midriff. ® Don’t wear the popular calf-and knee-length boots with pants or long skirts. The newest way to wear them is with short, nar- row or gathered skirts (allowing the top to show) and overtop of the lat- est jodhpur-detailed leggings. ® Do wear your summer sheers and pale, natural colors with fall clothes. Solid colors in creams, sand and taupes are also popular for fall. From my own experience | know s research for my job I've had to try countless face creams and I've never seen one that actually makes a difference. Esthetic salons can help the appearance of your skin, but they don't do anything about the underlying structure of your face. No salon or cosmetic product I know of even comes close to Optima. This process is for women of all ages. I've seen women in their 40s, 50s, and older who've received treat- ments and the difference is incredi- ble. They look prettier, their skin glows, and yes, they leok noticeably younger.
