Kiwanis wine fest heid THE FIRST shipment of Beau- jolais Nouveau from France will be uncorked Friday at this year's in- stalment of the Kiwanis Interna- tional Wine Festival. The event takes place 4:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. at the Vancouver Trade and Convention Centre. The Beaujolais will be offered for sampling along with Nouveau wines from Italy, the U.S. and B.C. More than $1,000 worth of assorted wine brands, vintages and types will be raffled off. Gordon Ritchie will show how to open a bottle of champagne by slashing the top off a bottle with a sabre. For the serious wine lover, the festival provides an opportunity to sample a vast assortment of expen- sive wines without committing yourself to an entire bottle. Members of the Import Vinters Association will be on hand with their experts to answer questions about all wines they offer for sampling.
