A proposal to rezone duplex property into one of the last multiple dwelling zones in West Vancouver was in the hands of the public at a hearing Monday night before West Van council. Of the two people who spoke to council, both were in favor of the proposal for the property located at 101- 22nd Street, which calls for a two storey terraced apart- ment building. Architect Robert Burgers said the proposal is to be a “better” alternative to building two duplexes. “We felt it was worthwhile to try and design a more sym- pathetic use for the property and its slope,” he added. Speaking for adjacent residents, H.A. Lackner told council that because the owners have “been sub jected to considerable expense already’ the proposal should go ahead. “Our building does not object. The concept is very exceptional and we are very much in favor of it,” Lackner said. “One reason 1s that we're dealing with long-time residents of West Vancouver and another is the housing shortage,” he added. Eleanor Godfrey, also of Bellevue Avenue, expressed concern about the new apartment blocking the view. “I cannot be per- suaded that one more inter- ruption of the view of, and access to, the shoreline which lends such grace to our lifestyle in this com- munity can be regarded as contribuling to preservation she wrote. of preciousness,” your best choice ...
