Negotiations are in progress with a number of potential purchasers for the sale of the Theme Park Package, including the Scream Machine, facilities such as the UFO H20 waterpark, and the Aviation Plaza. “The sale of assets has meant that the bill for clearing the site for development has been held down to $20.1 million. That’s $13.6 mil- lion less than we expected site clearance to cost,’' said Econemic Development Minister Grace Mc- Carthy. Of the major Expo buildings and facilities, the majority have stayed in British Columbia. But the legacy of Expo is also enjoyed by communities in the United States, overseas, and elsewhere in Canada. Funseekers who enjoy George Tumpach’s theme park in New York City get a chance to take a break in a very German setting, thanks to Tumpach’s purchase of Expo's Bavarian Garden. The Norway pavilion is back at work as a fish packing plant in Delta. The Ivory Coast pavilion is now the Black Nugget Museum in Ladysmith. The South Pacific pa- vilion is an art gallery in White Rock. The RCMP stables used during the musical ride have become part of the agricultural fair facilities in Saanich and the Toulouse Lautrec restaurant is a driving range clubhouse in Surrey. “The Expo Disposal Division of the former British Columbia Place organization has completed the sale of most assets,’* said McCar- thy. ‘The very practical and flexi- ble nature of the buildings has meant that they are being used in many different ways in their new lives.”” at 7:30 p.m. in St. Mary’s (South Hill) Church, 808 East 50th Ave., Vancouver.
