Thai crafts on sale THE NORTH Shore group of Amnesty International will hold a sale of Thai handicrafts and Amnesty Christmas cards at Westview Shopping Centre on Saturday, Nov. 15 and Saturday, Nov. 22. ’ A special feature of the sale are dolls, dressed in authentic costumes of various mountain tribés in Thailand, Laos, and Burma. There.‘are also many Christmas ornaments and gift items, all made by hand in Thailand as a result of an economic development project to provide income for Lao refugees in camps in Thailand and Thai and iibal village women. Vanida Sounthone Mongkhane, the manager of the crafts organization which provided the sale items, is half Thai, half Lao and was herself a political prisoner in Laos under the Communist regime. Amnesty International helped her and she is now an: Amnesty International member in Thailand. Amnesty International is a worldwide human rights organiza- tion which works for the release of prisoners of conscience, for fair and prompt trials for political prisoners, and against. torture. Maplewood raises MORE THAN $800 was raised by the Maplewood Community School flea fair on Saturday. Half of the proceeds will be donated to Rick Hansen's Man in Motion Tour and the other.-half will be used to buy school sports uniforms. Parents organized the flea fair, that attracted a steady stream of visitors throughout the day. A number of items were donated by parents. A bake sale was also held. The children attended the Cammac Music Centre held at Miracle Valley, near Mission, B.C., this past summer. The music centre is a music camp for adults and families, where people of all ages meet to make music together for one week. The mural shows the purple mountains, the huge cedar trees and the chapel at the site owned by the Salvation Army. The children have been able to portray the exciting things that children and adults do at the camp, like singing and playing in- struments. Last Thanksgiving this mural was on display at the Cammac Music Centre at Lake MacDonald in the Laurentians, Quebec.
