operating a car in B.C. ts on-
ly shghtly higher than the na-
tional average, a study con-

fiucted for the Canadian
Automobile Association
shows.

The cost per kilometre for
B.C. is 26.7 cents (43.06 cents
per mile) - 0.3 cents above the
Canadian average, the study
conducted by Runzheimer
Canada Inc.

Runzheimer, which
specializes in measuring the
cost of living, including
transportation costs, says the
study figures are based on a
1984 Chevrolet Citation
6-cylinder (173 cubic inch
displacement), four-door
hatchback equipped with
standard accessories, radio,
automatic transmission,
power steering, brakes, rear
window defogger and an

engine block heater.

The daily fixed
owning acarin B.C.
12 cents above the
average. Ownership costs in-
clude such items as _in-
surance, licence and registra-
tion fees, taxes, vehicle
depreciation and __ finance
charges.

Computations show B.C.
to be only 0.04 cents higher
than the Canadian average in
operating costs. The B.C.
figure is 6.80 cents per
kilometre. Operating costs
include gasoline, oil,
maintenance and tires and
relate directly to the number
of kilometres driven.

The average Canadian
motorist driving 16,000 km,
therefore, would pay $1,082
in Operating costs and $3,148
in ownership costs for a total
of $4,230 per year.
