A new commanding
officer took over the
British Columbia
Regiment last Sunday.

Ia. Col, Romano Acconet,
a North Vancouver resident,
assumied command of the old:
esp maa amt in B.C. rom bat,
Col. Paul Phikeox. who had
been in command since 1996.

Acconci? joined the B.C.
regiment in 1978 and has been
interested in the army since
childhood.

“Once Pioined these guys I
was hooked and Fee been
there ever since.” said Acconed.

Philip Owen,

The B.C Revsiment (Duke
of Conmaught’s Oans is a unit
of the Canadian Anned Forges
Reserve. Menibers of the
Regiment are affectionately
known as the “Dukes” and
have occupied the Beatty Street
Dnll Hall since 1901.

The Regiment undertakes
humanitarian and peacekeep-
ing duties as required and
trains tor light armored recon-
naissance.

The B.C. Regirient has
served Canada in the Boer War,
the First and Second World
Wars an} Korea. They have

involved in peacekeeping
missions in Egypt, the Golan
Heights, Cyprus and Bosnia.
