celebration — the
cherry blossoms are
blooming, lunch can
bé eaten outside again,
heavy jackets are back
in the closet... it’s
spring (almost).

But velcoming spring’s

arrival in the snow?
u bet!

Grouse Mountain’s annu-
al Spring Carnival kicks off
the season on Saturday,
March 14, the first day of
spring break for North Shore
students.

Visitors to the carnival can
take in the free barbecue,
watch snow vollcyball and
tug 6f war tournaments and

join in snow shoe races.

The carnival events are an
extra measure of fun added
to the other activities offered
daily on Grouse Mountain.

The 2,000 square foot
skating pond is the west
coast’s highest outdoor rink.
It’s open daily until 10 p.m.

Snow shoes are available
for rental through the
Adventure Centre. Use them
to tour the Tribute to the
Forest sculpture display, or
head to the Munday Alpine
Snow Shoe Park where 20
km of trails await.

Or tour the mountain
from a snow cat-drawn sleigh
ride.

And don’t forget to visit

Among the exhibits reject-
ed were a huge mass of dryer
lint, an assortment of cat snot
on slides, and a 15-year collec-
tion of umbilical cords.

Last May Georgia juror
Jim Thomas, 69, voted with
his colleagues to convict
Wayne Cservak of child
molesting, but soon had sec-
ond thoughts and spent his
own money for a lawyer to
handle Cservak’s appeal.

The victim then admitted
he had lied about Cservak,
and in December the case
against him was dismissed.
Cservak’s lawyer said Thomas’
deed was “unheard of, not
only in Georgia legal history
but in the entire American
legal history.”

Not quite. In January, the
Connecticut Supreme Court
heard arguments on the appeal
of convicted murderer Adrian
Santiago, funded by $12,000
so far from the life savings of
regretful juror June Briere.

According to a recent fed-
eral indictment in  lowa,
Kenneth Ray Bruner (who is
the stepson of a Pentacostal
minister in Oklahoma City)
led his seven accomplices in
prayer three weeks earlier, ask-
ing for God’s protection just
before they set out to knock
off Hermans Fine Jewelry.

Bruner acknowledged,
according to the indictment,
“that they were going to do
bad things but that they were
not bad people.”

Danus McCollum, 32, was
arrested in Brooklyn) behind

However, he is not, and
has never been, a Transit

times in 16 vears for using
transit agency equipment and
doing transit agency work in

North Carolina, and has spent
four years in prison.
