Osana Lancaster News Reporter deanz@nsnews.com IT definitely calls for a celebration — the cherry blossoms are blooming, lunch can bé eaten outside again, heavy jackets are back in the closet... it’s spring (almost). But velcoming spring’s arrival in the snow? u bet! Grouse Mountain’s annu- al Spring Carnival kicks off the season on Saturday, March 14, the first day of spring break for North Shore students. Visitors to the carnival can take in the free barbecue, watch snow vollcyball and tug 6f war tournaments and join in snow shoe races. The carnival events are an extra measure of fun added to the other activities offered daily on Grouse Mountain. The 2,000 square foot skating pond is the west coast’s highest outdoor rink. It’s open daily until 10 p.m. Snow shoes are available for rental through the Adventure Centre. Use them to tour the Tribute to the Forest sculpture display, or head to the Munday Alpine Snow Shoe Park where 20 km of trails await. Or tour the mountain from a snow cat-drawn sleigh ride.
