Until recently, when |
have picked up a newspaper, I
have always assumed that
what I’m abour to read is well
researched and fact filled. I
ams sure that is what most
people think because they
don’t know the people
involved in these artic!
+However once one is person-
ally involved, they come to
realize that news reports these
days are more like editorials,
based on an opinion that the
media believe the general
public will buy in to, and not
necessarily on the facts.

Recently there has been an
issue in the news that has hit
very close to home for me,
and I find it very disturb
that even our local nev

falsified stories. I have read
articles in The North Shore
News, the Province, and the
Vancouver Sun over the last
12) months that have sian-
dered my friend Mohammad
Mirhadi, and he is not even
alive to defend himself.

“Mo” was the victim of a
brutal planned murder. He
was killed in cold blood in a
North Vancouver movie the-
ater on Feb. 28, 1997, two
weeks after his 20th birthday.

Most news reports have
harped on, exaggerate, and
even invented stories about
Mo’s alleged run-ins with the
law and his affiliation with the
so-called Persian Pride gang
when he was a teenager. In
doing so, they blatantly disre-
garded how much he had
matured over the last few
years. Mohammad had settled
down in a relationship, and
was looking forward to a
bright and successful future
with his newborn daughter,
Nikava.

That future was taken
away from him. The sad truth
is that all his daughter will
have to remember him by are
old photographs, stories from
friends and family, and_ the
articles in the paper. Articles
that reported every wrong

taken in his short life, instead
of honoring his memory with
