Anant etercrmer) - Lamentable Li SOME years ago there was a book that spoofed the advertising industry. Its main mes- sage went something like this: “Here's to those friendly folk who gave you Pearl Harbor!” Originally, the crack had been thought up by some- one who was trying to make Japanese products look good. And it comes to mind when I see the federal Liberal party in action. They are the friendly folk who gave us ovr Pearl Harbor. Didn’t they send the national debt soaring? Wasn’s it a mere $18 billion then in 1969? Isn’e it $600 billion now, and rising? Yes, the Tories had their go at screwing us. But they are liberals, too. We have the Charest Liberals and the Chretien Liberals. It-was the Trudeau Liberals who first sank our ships with the bombs and torpedoes of immigration and multiculturalism. And deb. mavbox Banning the weed no answer Dear Editor: Concerning the March 14 David Mitchell column (Pulling the plug on the pushers), the author writes, “Eventually it will be illegal to smoke or possess tobacco. It’s simply too deadly a drug to be allowed to continue to destroy lives.” One wonders if the author recommends tobacco prohi- bition based on the shining success of alcohol, cocaine, heroin and cannabis prohibi- tion. On the face of it, tc might seem that prohibition would give us the most control over dangerous and addictive sub- stances but the opposite is true. By prohibiting a substance we relinquish what control we have over labelling, marketing and distribution to the black market. When we prohibit a sub- stance we lose our ability to tax it and so recoup associat- ed health-care costs. "Tobacco is simply too deadly a drug to be sold by gun- roting black marketers in our schools. Matthew M. Elrod Victoria, B.C. Creator@islandnet.com We are still being blown out of the water. The new City of Hongcouver has been created. Surrey has become Surrey Lanka and North Vancouver is Tran Town. My cadar station on Sentinel Hill warned you years ago that the attackers were on their way. But you snuggled down in your blan- kets. After he had decided to quit, Pierre Trudeau even boasted about what he had done — just like Mitsuo Fuchida, who led the Japanese attack in 1941. Fuchida later became a Christian and repented his action. Trudeau has done neither. Nor has Chretien. It is possible that you wanted your ships Stown out of the water. But I don’t think so. There are other effects. The sham of Canadian- style parliamentary democra- cy, for instance. Only a couple of Liberals have failed to raise their trotters in Ottawa’s version of George Orwell’s Animal Farm when their leader, Napoleon — for which read Chretien — wanted them to. One was Nova Scotia MP Roseanne Skoke, who held out against government- approved homosexuality. The other was an Ontario MP, John Nunziata. Napoleon has fixed Skoke. He has seen to it that she didn’t get the Liberal nomination. And Nunziata was turfed out of the piggery for telling the truth about his leader's Iving promise to get rid of the GST. He is the Liberals’ Snowball, the naughty pork: er in Orwell's book whom Napoleon kicked out. Animal Farm is so true to Liberal antics you might think Orwell was alive and well and writing in Canada. Twenty-five per cent of Liberal candidates must be women. Napoleon will appoint them if the other pigs disagree. Democracy from the top. Multicult women are pre- ferred. Mobina Jaffer has been parachuted in to Burnaby Douglas; and Sophia Leung was pushed to the front in Vancouver- Kingsway. Male candidates are wringing their hands in the rain. Serves them right. Didn’t they know that affir- mative action is one of Napoleon’s main pieces of armament? Quebecers first, multicul- ters second , and white male Canadians third, most of whom are too busy star gaz- ing to realize that when they vote Liberal they are voting themselves out of the game. They remind me of ali those forest workers who vote NDP while the NDP destroys the forest industry. Then there’s Lloyd Axworthy. Put him down as the Animal Farm piggy called Squealer. Castro is a commie and a killer. But on Animal Farm, leftists are lovely and friends of Napoleon are the Best of the Left. Axworthy said his pur- puse was to get Castro to bnng freedom of speech and democracy back to Cuba. Bur when are the Liberals going to bring treedom of speech and democracy back to Canada? Astute comments come from outsider animals. Someone pointed out in a letter to the papers that Liberal MPs do not repre- sent us to Ottawa; they rep- resent Ottawa to us. That reminds me: Warren Kinsella is the Liberal candi- date in North Vancouver. And there was never a truer Napoleon loyalist. He has put out a pam- hiet showing a picture of imself with a hand on Chretien’s shoulder. Both are grinning. “You can always count on a Liberal,” states the cap- tion. Of course. You can always count on a Liberal to attack Pearl Harbor.
