Computer thefé

A NORTH Shore Multicultural Society representative is
asking the public for donations after the office fost most of its
computer equipment following a burglary on Jan. 1.

Two computers, two monitors and two printers were
taken in the New Year's Day heist from an office in the 100-
biock of East 15th Street. The society is working with old
computers left behind by burglars. Anyone with info about
the burglary is asked to call the North Van RCMP at 985-
1311. Anyone wishing to donate is asked to call 988-2931.

Fires snuffed

WEST VANCOUVER firefighters report the quick actions of
a 24th Street apartment owner prevented extensive damage
after a toaster ignited curtain‘s in the apartment's kitchen.

The curtains were pulled off the wall and into the sink,
where water was used to douse the flames. Cupboards, wall-
paper an?’ curtains were damaged.

A few aours later a kitchen fire at 2620 Bellevue broke out
en the 20th fioor. The resident extinguished the grease fire
and suffered burns to his hands. Soot and smoke damage
extended to the kitchen and dining room.

Cops convert

‘NORTH VANCOUVER RCMP are becoming environmen-
taliy friendly by converting police cars to natura! gas power.
Two vehicles will be tested in the field to determine their
viability.
If the tests meet all expectations, it is anticipated that 35
patro! cars will be converted to natural gas.
