ROTARY INTERNATIONAL

The Rotary Club of North Vancouver is one of over
22,000 Rotary Clubs in the world. They exist in
almost every country, and now even in China and
the Commonwealth of Independent States (formerly
the USSR). The objective of Rotary International is
to encourage and foster service to the global
community. In doing this, Clubs maintain the

Members of Rotary Clubs not only work with local
communitics but also support many global projects.
Most recent has been the project to climinate polio
throughout the world by the year 2000. This massive
program has collected over $230 million (US) and to
date, the project has immunized over 500 million
children across the world. The program is currently
On target achieving its objective and has been so -
successful that several other infectious diseases have
been included in the project.

In the North Vancouver Club we regularly send
local students on International exchanges and
receive students from all
over the world. Our
outgoing student,
Jennifer Cowan, is
currently in Cape Town,
South Africa and our
incoming — student,
Victor Aguilera, is with
us from San- Luis
Potosi, in Mexico.
These “Ambassadors”
are studying in local
schools and living
with local families for
